The hourglass shape or "Double Box" gives the Cedar Creek what we like to call "stereo sound". The high and low tone chambers are separated by the narrow waist producing more volume and a balanced treble/bass sound, while the deep box preserves a pleasing mellow tone. The top (or soundboard) is solid wood in your choice of Sassafras, Mahogany or Red Gum. The back is birch laminate with solid soft maple sides and a solid walnut head, tail and fretboard. The entire instrument is constructed of solid black walnut with your choice of solid wood for the soundboard: Sassafras, Mahogany, Red Gum, Walnut, Spanish Cedar, Soft Maple or Cherry. The 6-String Dulcimer is not any harder to play, it just offers a unique, fuller string sound along with more tuning options. The Artist 6-String is constructed of all solid black walnut body, head and fretboard. The soundboard is your choice of solid Butternut, Mahogany, Walnut or Spruce. It has a flat guitar-style headpiece, dot inlay markers on the fretboard and multiple piece inlay stripes on the back. It features a unique 2-piece fretboard with a decorative laser cut inlay in the strum hollow area. Sound hole choices include Butterfly, Seagull, Hummingbird or Plain Vines.

The dulcimer kits are about the same difficulty level as a model airplane. It requires fairly basic woodworking skills such as sanding, gluing, hand trimming and putting on a finish. Only simple household tools are needed: sandpaper, coping saw or ex-acto knife, drill, wire snips, file, glue and finish. The only 2 areas involving cutting are trimming the top and bottom around the edge of the frame and cutting the sound holes. Patterns are provided, but if you want us to cut the sound holes for you, please ADD $15.00 to the cost of your kit.

If you want to learn to play, but don't want to spend very much, this is for you! Plays the same way as any dulcimer and has a surprisingly good tone. Heavy cardboard body with a wooden fretboard. Comes with a pick, noter and instructions. Great for classrooms!
